The All Ukrainian Mother and Child Healthcare Center is an exercise in context, designed to fit into its local surroundings while responding to global healthcare issues. The landscape derives form from the building program, combining the latest ideas about pediatric care and the resolution of shaping outdoor space as well as the interaction of the building within it. In addition to the responsibility the project has to the “triad of care,” patient, family and staff, this project seeks to establish itself as a definer of a new architecture for healthcare in the Ukraine. It reinforces the country’s commitment to obstetric care and defines spaces of both formal and informal grandeur. Through the careful placement of building components and geometries, an optimistic blending of the most contemporary ideas about healing environments balances the strong site specificity of the project.
