Charles Smith

Known for his high energy and demand for design excellence, Charles is recognized as a leader in the higher education market based on the creativity of work, inventiveness of approach and the quality of solutions he provides.

A key member of the firm's management since 1997, Charles has led as a Project Director for scores of student life, academic, wellness/recreation and laboratory projects in the course of his 22-year career. He partners with clients who range from small private colleges and private research institutions to land grant universities. He believes a holistic and integrated approach to architecture—from project management to technical—contributes to a project's success. Charles has been actively involved in the American Institute of Architects in Chicago since 1996, including serving as President, and is a member of the Society for College and University Planning.
