Charles Smith

Charles is recognized as a leader in the laboratory market based on the creativity of work, inventiveness of approach, and the quality of solutions he provides.

A key member of OWP/P’s management since 1997 and a principal of the firm, Charles has served as a project director for many significant higher education and laboratory projects over his 18-year career. For several years he has been involved in a broad range of projects at the University of Chicago-operated Argonne National Laboratory. In addition to numerous dry and wet laboratory renovations, he has completed the master plan of the Rare Isotope Accelerator Complex, a facility dedicated to advanced physics research and technology.

Charles has been actively involved in the American Institute of Architects in Chicago since 1996, including serving as President, and is a member of Society for College and University Planners. He has been active on the board of the Illinois Coalition, a group dedicated to strengthening Illinois’ status as a nationwide science and technology leader.
