David’s clients, many of whom have worked with him and OWP/P for more than several decades, value his medical planning skills. His ability to project future uses and potential options for facilities within the context of implementation and phasing constraints is a great asset to his healthcare clients.
He is active in many professional organizations including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the AIA Committee for Architecture for Health. Upon the retirement of founding principal Len Wicklund in 1995, Dave became Chairman of the Board, a position he held until 2003. He continues to serve as an elected member of the Board of Directors.
In addition, he has published or been cited in many articles and books about healthcare design including: David Kuffner, Healthcare Strategic Management, “Hospitals’ ED needs to be evaluated in achieving facilities’ overall goals,” Derek Salter and Martin Valins, FutureCare: and New Directions for Planning Health and Care Facilities, Blackwell Scientific Press, Oxford, England, 1995. Currently, David is working on the 425,000 SF N. Gerlach Expansion and Renovation for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria, Illinois.
