OWP/P | Cannon Design’s client, a not-for-profit administrative agency, has been housed in two separate buildings for more than four decades. Staff and leadership loved the location, but the buildings are no longer efficient. Working with the client and its real estate advisor, OWP/P | Cannon Design evaluated numerous locations throughout Chicago and the suburbs before our client decided to relocate to a new building. The new property is approximately 25 acres and affords a beautiful natural setting amongst woodlands and nearby wetlands, while offering the potential for future expansion.
The building materials as well as the form and siting of the three-story building allows it to fit naturally within its environment. The building mass is broken-up by the modified “L” shaped plan that serves to decrease its visual size. The narrow width and unique orientation maximizes views while allowing for the best natural light quality inside.
