The Spanish-revival towers of the Wrigley Building overlook the Chicago River and Michigan Avenue. One of the city’s signature structures, the building and its clock tower are illuminated nightly. The original lighting design relied upon floodlights stationed across the river that cast some glare onto surrounding buildings and the Michigan Avenue bridge. These floodlights were not as energy efficient or easy-to-manage as newer lighting sources.
Working with HOK, MKB Architects and zpd+a Architects, OWP/P provided the necessary electrical engineering to support the new design, which incorporates state-of-the-art controls. Integrating the lighting control system with the building management system achieved a significant cost savings.
